Dr. Scott Overholser – Replacing partial dentition with removable appliances

For patients missing multiple teeth, there are several removable replacement options.  Dr. Scott Overholser uses removable partial dentures, or RPDs for short, to restore dentition in an economical, quick, and nonpermanent manner.   The standard method involves an appliance with a cast framework, which means it is custom made to fit each individual patient by clasping around existing teeth.  Plastic teeth are then added to the framework, making it both retentive and stable.  A Valplast partial denture is one that is also custom made to fit, but instead of metal, has an acrylic base which is the color of the gums.  It is also stable and retentive.

For an even more custom fit, Dr. Scott Overholser fabricates precision attachment removable partial dentures.  In these cases, instead of having a framework with clasps around the teeth, the attachments anchor internally in custom made crowns.  So, several teeth are restored with crowns, and the RPD attaches within the crown, making the RPD retentive and less noticeable cosmetically.
